I am a degreed FORMER 7 year substitute in SFPS. I have not and will not sign on with Kelly Services.
I have no intention of signing a form that gives them license to access financial, educational, employment and numerous other records that could be detrimental to my security. Kelly requires completion of this form with the response they will not pursue this information, yet if one signs such a form, consent is tacitly given. Kelly is a nationwide firm with a nationwide data base that potentially may be hacked into. New Mexico is 12th in the nation for identity stealing; the Legislature recognized and acknowledged this problem during the past session. I trust SFPS to keep confidential the minimum information they requested; I can not feel the same way about a for profit company; nor do I feel they understand education or have people skills based on the "informational" meeting I attended, however, that shall be left for another time.
There are other alternatives for substituting in our area; witness "Opinion", the New Mexican, March 28th where Susan Bodenstein states" I am not sure that $10-$12 an hour, which is what I pay substitutes"..."is enough to motivate people". She further invites people to "give me a call at 471-0508" to "create a master list" that "I will make available to whoever needs one." There are many, many other schools in town that can use subs. I for one am following that pathway. I shall miss the bond I have had these many years with SFPS and when the district acknowledges this Kelly contract is a bad idea and returns the contacting of substitutes in house I will be pleased to again call myself a "substitute in SFPS"; until that time I am substituting elsewhere at a higher rate of pay.

True, subbing for the private sector pays much better than the public.I have done both but loved bieng in the Public Schools. Sad but true, and once again Santa Fe Public Schools lose out on some of their best resources.
SFPS your short sightedness is showing.Think again. No child left behind isn't working and now we should read something like: NO SUB LEFT BEHIND
We gave our all for you, and some of our best are leaving do to Kelly Services.

I have not seen any improvement in the sub situation at SFHS. Every day we have a shortage of subs, errors in the assignments, and lack of essential information for the subs provided by the Kelly's system. Our very busy secretary has not been releived any way by the new system. She still has the difficult task of searching for staff to cover classes. Also, as a teacher I am unable to provide any special instructions or important information to my sub. Drop the Kelly's contract and pay the subs more. They work very hard and we appreciate good subs.
